School & Community

Schools and adult youth leaders (coaches, pastors, and other adult allies) can have an enormous impact on many decisions youth make, including the choice to not drink alcohol.

The Social Access Workgroup has teamed up with law enforcement officers and created a presentation for parents.  We encourage you to invite parents to a parent night to learn about the laws, consequences and resources available to them to prevent underage drinking.

So what can you do?

  • School staff & administrators, take any on or off campus alcohol consumption seriously and take every opportunity you can to educate youth on the dangers of underage drinking.
  • Coaches & sport league advisers, be sure that celebrations for teams are not held at sports bars or where alcohol is present. Youth who see adults they respect consuming alcohol begin to believe alcohol is part of the event.
  • Participate in town hall forums and community conversations that address underage drinking. Be an advocate for preventing underage drinking.
  • Schools, share school policies and expectations regarding underage drinking. Be sure to follow up with appropriate enforcement. Share these policies with parents and the community on a regular basis.
