Law enforcement can play a critical role in preventing and intervening with underage drinking. As the first responders in many cases, law officers can be that initial change agent that makes youth think twice about drinking alcohol and parents think twice about providing or allowing alcohol.
Below is a matrix of San Diego County's and 17 San Diego municipalities' Social Host Ordinances. Anyone who hosts a party, where minors are present, can be cited for providing or allowing minors (under 21) to drink alcohol.
This is one tool that law enforcement can use in changing community behavior and attitudes toward underage drinking.
